Yorkton Chamber of Commerce History 1997

In February 1997, the Chamber advertised for a new manager for the Chamber. Joan McPake became the new Chamber of Commerce Manager effective May 1, 1997. Ruth Shaw after twenty two years of dedicated employment was retiring, although she still remained active in the work force and continued to volunteer her services to the Chamber.

On June 6, 1997 the official opening of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce/ Tourism Yorkton building was held in partnership with Tourism Yorkton.

Progress continues and in 1997 the Chamber supported many issues and projects. Through the Chambers support the Good Spirit Regional Business Resource Center became a reality and is located at 44 4th Ave. North. The Yorkton Regional High School Marching 100 Band had the distinguished honor to be chosen to represent Canada at the Rosebowl Parade in Pasadena, California. The Chamber and membership proudly provided their support. The Chamber also provided support in the amount of $10,000 over four years to the Yorkton Public School Division #93 and the Yorkton Catholic School Division for a new joint school and recreational facility. As well, October 1997 was declared Small Business Month which created partnerships focusing on appreciating businesses in Yorkton and creating awareness that “Yorkton can provide big city services with small town atmosphere”.Â
