Chamber Celebrates 75th Anniversary

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce celebrated the 75th anniversary of its certification Thursday. from documents in the fieles of the chamber office, the certificate of formation of the yorkton and District board of Trade was issued on January 28, 1898. Under the hand of secretary George Bull secretary of Trade, a newly formed Board of Trade, a letter was sent from the Village of Yorkton, North West Territories, to the Secretary of State. Another legal document from the Judicial District from the Judicial District of Eastern Assinioia, stated the fact that George Alfred Bull of the village of Yorkton, insurance agent solemnly swore he was secretary of the Yorkton and District Board of Trade and that it had been duly organized and registered with the Secretary of State. this document was signed by a W. P. Hopkins. There were 33 signatures on the charter roster of members. Many of the names still are associated with the community life of Yorkton, either as business firms, streets or descendents.
